Overview

The 2014 Ebola outbreak is the largest in history, affecting multiple countries in West Africa.

According to the CDC, Ebola spreads through human-to-human transmission via direct contact (through broken skin or mucous membranes) with the blood, secretions, organs or other bodily fluids of infected people, and with surfaces and materials (e.g. bedding, clothing, needles, syringes) contaminated with these fluids.

Healthcare workers and others who may be exposed to people with Ebola should wear personal protective equipment (PPE), including masks, gloves, gowns, and eye protection. The selection of appropriate PPE, including but not limited to respiratory protection, is the responsibility of the end-user and must be made following a thorough hazard assessment of the work tasks and the environment. The end user must also insure that individuals are properly trained in the donning, doffing, use and disposal of PPE to avoid contamination. Consult with local authorities before undertaking any control or response activitie.
